 Good toy, but not as well built as a non-mini Oct 28, 2009

My son already has a bunch of normal-sized Automoblox cars. He plays with them every day even though he is only 20-months old and they are recommended for 3+ year olds. I find Automoblox to be high quality toys.
I purchased four MINI Automoblox cars (red coupe, blue sedan, green pickup, and green SUV) so we can take them for trips for my boy to play. My son loves MINIs too. If he plays with MINIs inside the car, it is challenging to find small wheels after he takes them off and drops them on the floor.
There are two major differences (besides the size) in MINIs compared to the full-size Automoblox that I want to mention:
1. MINIs do not come with driver and passengers
2. All four MINIs use the same type of connectors for the wooden pieces (full-size Automoblox have vehicle specific connectors that can be interchanged and add another level to the puzzle)
It seems that the quality of the MINIs is just slightly below the quality of full-sized Automoblox cars. There are some artifacts from the manufacturing process on wooden bodies of the MINIs. Nevertheless, Automoblox are great fun toys.

My grandsons ages 2-5 loved this car. I purchased this car along with 4 other mini automoblox cars for my 3 year old grandsons birthday. They were the hit of the party. Very educational, the boys were so creative building cars with just those 5 cars. Great toys.

Ok, so she's only 2. Maybe even too young to really enjoy this toy to it's fullest? But she instantly took right to these cars. Then I showed her that they come apart. I'm not sure if that was the wisest decision, because I haven't seen one of them complete since then.... but she still loves taking them apart and attempting to re-assemble them. (And if you own different cars, the parts all mix and match to form different/new cars.)
We own a few different models... but I decided to review this one because personally it's my favorite.

My son, who is 2.5 y.o. right now, loves this toy. He takes it apart, and puts it together. The toy is very durable, which is a very good thing, since my son plays with it a whole lot, and is pretty rough with it at times. You have to watch out though: my son tried putting the wheels in his mouth when he was a little younger.

Our toddler has love this toy since the first day. In the beginning (when he was less than 18 months) it was just another car with wheels, but now that he is 24 months, he appreciates the complexity of it. Not a day goes by when he doesn't want to take it apart and try to mix and match pieces with a second Automoblox mini that we bought for him. He loves making a "limosine" connecting two center bodies or a mini-mini by removing the center body. It's been fantastic seeing his creativity develop as he came up with the idea to mix and match parts was completely on his own.
My one concern is the tires. One, they're easy to misplace so I'm constantly keeping an eye on them if he decides to take apart the car. Second, there is a spare tire on the X9-X model that is attached on the back of the car. One day, the car rolled off the table and landed square on the spare tire. The plastic mounting connection broke and now we can no longer attach the tire. When I attempted to contact Automoblox to ask if they could replace the mounting connection, I never received a response. That leaves me a bit disappointed with the company.
Otherwise, the car has held up to plenty of abuse being dropped off the sofa and being dismantled/reassembled daily. We'll probably get him another one for a special occasion.
