A design flaw prevents it from really teaching proper letter form: Jan 02, 2012
By losdavos The magnet on the stylus is so strong (or the letters themselves are so small) that any and all of the little metal pellets that are anywhere near the stylus pop up, completing the letter, before your child has even tried to properly follow the guide numbers and arrows. I'm right now watching my four year old complete all the letters by just playing with the stylus, drawing little circles around all the letters, regardless of their shape. I don't think that really benefits him in any way or teaches him anything. Please note, we only have the lower case version. I don't know if this same problem affect the capital letter or number versions of this toy.

Magnificent Magnatab Mar 14, 2012

I bought this for my grandson. His mother said his son's teacher was so impressed with the toy when he brought it to school that she planned to order one for her classroom. My grandson had shown little interest in writing until he received this toy. I first saw the upper case version of this toy at the gift store in The Modern, a museum in Fort Worth, TX. I noted the name of the company and Googled it when I got home to see what other versions of this toy were available. Being a retired teacher, I knew the greater importance of lower case practice versus upper case and numbers so I purchased the lower case Magnatab. When I played with the square grid version of this toy at the museum which was designed for "free drawing", I discovered that it was not as user friendly since 2 and 3 rows of magnets would pop up when I tried to draw only one line. I found Magnatabs very entertaining and knew the educational value was well worth the price. There's just something magical about magnets.

Good learning tool Jan 04, 2013
By Iz's mom Kids love it... If stylus was attached I would have rated it higher. My 3 1/2 year old has yet to follow the arrows but comes back to it to look and learn.

I love this! Nov 29, 2012
By sheilacoito I think it's great! It would be better for say, a three year old, but my almost 5 year old will practice, too. I like how it gives arrows showing the kids which direction to write next, although, some of the direction is not how I write, so I have to be careful because my son is a stickler at times:)
