I think the visual representation of counting, by color, number, and the precision of matching the number to the "cut" of the pegs is extremely valuable in teaching young children the concept of number value. My little one is still a bit young, but loves to try to take the pieces off. One of the pieces has cracked after minimal play, however.

I bought this toy for my grandson 12 months ago. today I saw that the paint was chipping off of one of the pieces. I wish that there were reviews when I bought it. If I knew that the paint was prone to chipping off, I never would have purchased it. I hope that it is truly non toxic. I feel like the whole toy is worthless now. Beware!

I was so excited to receive this - but when I opened the package, I noticed one of the disks has a crack and all of them have uneven paint on the edges. I used a wet paper towel to wipe them off and paint came right off (chipped off) on the paper towel.
Also the center holes on the disks are not smooth, little baby fingers will for sure get splinters in them.
This product is so poorly made I returned it.
