 Cute pieces, but not as functional as they could be Jul 18, 2010

Based on other reviews for this series of toys, I anticipated this set to not come with the fairly dolls, which I purchased separately. I also have the Fairy Forest Lodge, fairy dolls, and all of the other furniture accessory sets, except for the Forest Bridge & River set. My daughter was ready for a doll house that would inspire her imagination and creative play, so everyone in the family pitched in to help Santa bring this all home.
With this set, you get the little leaf 'rug' piece, the mushroom table, and 2 mushroom stools. No dolls. The pieces are adorable and very well made. For creative play potential, this set is top notch. For functional play, not so much. The mushroom table is top-heavy and tips over easily, and while the fairy dolls (sold separately) are fully positionable, they absolutely will not stay sitting on these little mushroom stools. This is why I give the set 4 stars and not 5. If the table had a wider base and the stools had wider seats, they would be perfect.
FYI, the fairy dolls are a bit easier to sit up on the chairs that come with the Living Room set, but still fall off of those easily.
If you decide NOT to purchase puzzle base for the house, the green leaf with this set adds a nice punch of color to the collection. My 2 girls move it around the house and pretend it's all sorts of crazy things ... rug, picnic blanket, raft ... I'm glad that they have such wonderful imaginations! My one complaint about the green leaf is that it isn't sealed. I assume that it was stained with some kind of natural non-toxic water-based stain, but no sealer. The paint on the other pieces is a semi-gloss, so needed no sealant. If your child spills any liquid on the leaf, or any of the green stained wooden pices (such as the puzzle base for the house), the green stain will bleed. My children haven't put the pieces in their mouthes yet, but one of them leaned over with a sippy cup and when condensation dripped onto the pieces, water spots were left showing the light wood.
Note that the red of my mushroom table and chairs is darker than the photos here, almost a darker brick red than bright primary red. This may be different from set to set, as the mushroom accessories in other sets I purchased are brighter, such as the mushroom lamps with the Living Room and Bedroom sets, which were a nice bright red, and the mushrooms with the Hammock set were orange-red.

I bought this at a store so I knew it did not come with fairies, and I found it great for the moss/fairy garden my daughter made. She loves it.

So cute and great to play with for toddlers! Wonderful wooden product for our little doll house, and it fits calico critters, too!

My daughter loves this set, and plays with it in her fairy house. The set if of pretty good quality re the paint finish, though the table top has had to be glued back on. They suit any fairy loving little girl (mine is 4). The set also came with a really cute little fairy cake for the fairies to share for afternoon tea.

I purchased the Fairy Forest Lodge, the furniture and accessory sets, because my kids have always been fascinated with Gnomes. Okay, so maybe I am, too. This adorable Mushroom set adds just the right touch to the Gnome (or Fairie) Home! The colors are cheerful, the table and stools are sturdy and the leaf rug is adorable, it adds nice contrast. My daughter and I are dollhouse collectors so I can honestly say that the price for this set seems extremely reasonable - especially since it is made of wood and the craftsmanship is so good. I would never have expected it to include the figures. After reading reviews about the Enchantmints families having trouble staying on the furniture, we actually purchased a different Woodland Family, not as reasonably priced but a bit more posable. The kids have a great time with it, but any adult collector would be just as happy with this set as the kids are!
