5Three Cheers for Orchard!  Dec 15, 2007
This game is a little pricey, but once my play group of four little girls, ages 19 mos. to 28 mos., sat together multiple times to play this game with great fun and success, I was sold. Candyland and Memory are just too 'over their head' at this time. This game is also educational, with color recognition and counting, and the craftsmanship is great; this game is worth every penny. My girls will continue playing this for a long time.

4Teacher's Opinion  Dec 11, 2007
The children love this game and it certainly teaches many concepts all at once. The small pieces are easy to lose, but they like this game so much I keep buying a new copy to replace the pieces.

5A GREAT first board game  Dec 11, 2007
This game is easy to play. Even our 2-year-old is able to join in. The pieces are cute and durable, with the exception of the baskets, which eventually I'm sure will get crushed by a foot or rear end. (The good news is that the baskets aren't essential to the game and you could easily substitute any other kind of container.) Our 4-year-old is in a "sore loser" stage where losing anything sends her into a crying, screaming fit. But the cooperative nature of this game, where everyone is on the same team, means she deals with losing (to the raven) much better, and we get to model "good sport" losing to her. One great thing about this game is it doesn't last forever. It takes about 10-15 minutes to play. There's only one other drawback: when you roll the die, it has a tendency to make a royal mess of the board. We're teaching our girls to roll the die on the carpet instead of onto the board.

5This is the BEST game for ages 3 to 5  Nov 02, 2007
We own a lot of games and many are fun....at least for a little while. But this game is my favorite and my 4.5 year old son's favorite, too. He's had it for a year and it's been his favorite for pretty much that whole time. His 2.5 year old sister can play this one, too. The quality and craftsmanship is exceptional. The cooperative nature of it is fantastic. Everyone who plays is on the same team, trying to collect all the fruit in the orchard before the raven does. We get extra fun out of it by yelling "No ravens! No ravens!" when we roll the die. At the end, the kids jump up with excitement and dance around the room, singing "We beat the raven, we beat the raven." I much prefer this to having them taunt each other about one kid winning and the other not! The only knock on this game is the raven puzzle in the middle - it's tough to put together so the kids can't do that part themselves. For that reason, we always play this one with them.

5great first game  Sep 25, 2007
This game is fabulous ... my son received it from grandma for his third birthday and he loves to play it over and over again. It is fairly non-competitive, as either all players win together or the raven. In addition, it teaches color recognition. The fruit pieces are made of wood, nothing is plastic! Great first game and fun for adults too!
