Had these HABA blocks for over 20 years! Aug 17, 2011
By E. Williams I bought these little blocks for my daughter over 20 years ago and am now buying them for my grandchild.
HABA is a great European toy company and their wooden toys are better designed than almost any other toy company. A number of these HABA toys are for sale on Amazon.
The little size of these blocks is great for 18 months and up (just don't let them have the little "door" blocks that slide into the doorway of each "house" or the other figurals until they're older).
I always put these blocks, minus the doors and small people (but I allow the trees) on my granddaughter's little table. She keeps them in a woven basket (so tasteful!) and she enjoys taking the pieces out and setting them up. She's too young to really understand that they represent a village but she does seem to get it that they're houses. She loves the silky feel of them.
Recently I drew a curving road on a long piece of paper with a magic marker and put a few small wooden cars on it and then helped her set up her houses and trees. I've done this a few times now and she has become adept at creating this little world on her own. She saved the paper "road" that I made for her and has used it several times now.
The final nice thing about these blocks is that if she drops them, say, on her feet, they won't hurt her. The large kindergarten-size blocks can kill if fall out of a small child's hands.
I also recommend another block set that is sold on Amazon. They're called "skyscraper blocks" and they go very nicely with the village set and the little wooden railroad set by Maxim, also sold on Amazon.

blocks Apr 11, 2007
By Christopher a bit small but great for price. Works great with the wooden train sets.
Great creative fun Feb 04, 2012
My daughter fell in love with this toy from the beginning. She loves making buildings and castles, and having the "little people" cross bridges or simply hang out. This thing's design is really attractive to the child's mind. She can't get enough of the cows and the trees and the different arrangements she can go for with all the pieces.
Great Eco option for building blocks Apr 11, 2011

These blocks are durable and have a fantastic choice of colors. The blocks are eco friendly so that takes some of the worry out of letting your child play with them...who wants to be nervous about the paint chemicals in case your child slips the block in their mouth. There are many size blocks and a great assortment of shapes which just allow your child's imagination to run wild.
