Lovely, Well-Made Ice-Cream Cones Nov 04, 2009
By goonius We bought these for my daughter's play kitchen for Christmas. We already own the wooden version Chocolate Ice Cream in two colors, but the scale of the wooden ones is so far off as to be ridiculous (the wooden cones are smaller than Haba's lollipops, for example). Also, the reversible ice cream scoops is such a cool idea.
I'm really impressed by how well-made these are. The cones themselves are fairly stiff, with a super soft-covering that has sort of a waffle-cone like print. The ice cream scoops have the same plush coating, in addition to embroidered design. The less fancy plain chocolate and vanilla side only have embroidered "chocolate chips" designs. The pink has about 20 tiny pink opalescent beads scattered about the pink surface (difficult to discern from the photos) as well as the red "cherry" bead, while the yellow has a "pearl" atop a spray of "whipped cream" and is covered with little simulated almonds.
Now, considering that I'm really pleased with this product, you might be wondering where that other star went.
I have a bit of a gripe with the pearl and red beads. XRF testing of seemingly identical red beads atop Haba Soft Toys Set of 6 Pieces of Cake: Desert Toys indicated excessive levels of lead. This is an issue that Haba did address although they Haba claims the lead was imbued in the glass of the bead although they said the frosted coating on the outer part of the bead was unable to be tested. Secondly, faux pearl beads are a known lead hazard. Independent testing of faux pearl beads has come up with lead again and again. I think it's a risky choice for a product manufactured in China, or really for any children's toy at all for that matter. Anyway, I bring this up because it's difficult information to come by for some reason, and I think people deserve the skinny, and because I think Haba could have improved on these ice cream cones greatly by adding German-manufactured and painted wooden beads to them instead, and not harmed the aesthetics in the least.
Of course there's an easy fix if this is an issue that concerns anyone else like it does me. I removed all the beads and replaced them with safe cloth, because that does away with the choking hazard aspect also, and they look just as lovely. It probably took me about 20 minutes. Call me crazy, but I think it's actually worth it. I can do little sewing projects like the fix for making these safer, but no way could I make these cool ice cream cones from scratch.

Gelato in the playhouse Jun 17, 2008
By Robert Petkus As another reviewer wrote, What fun! Well crafted and not plastic. Bear in mind that you get (2) cones, not the (4) shown in the picture. The ice cream component itself removes and flips over for a different flavor - vanilla and chocolate (both with chips) and (2) sundaes. The outside material is a soft fleecy cotton and the cones are reinforced and maintain their shape throughout abuse.

cute soft ice cream cones Jul 24, 2008
By Happi Mommi saw a friend who had it and loved it so i bought it for my 16 mo. old.. she loves playing with! the appeal was that it's made of soft fabric and not wood, for a change. you only get two cones and two ice cream tops-- chocolate and vanilla which flips to the strawberry swirl and the lemon sorbet, respectively. she'll say 'uh-oh' when she's walking around with them and the ice cream falls out, but she'll have fun picking it up and putting it back onto the cone. bottom line: i really bought it because it just looks so cute and adorable! will look into the other soft toys Haba offers (the cake, and sweets box, cinnamon roll/donut, croissant.) these toys would actually be good to give as gifts. fyi.. toys are still made in china even though it says 'imported from germany'

By L.Nelson I purchased this toy for my granddaughter who is just shy of two. I was unsure if I wanted to go the "wood" route or "fabric". I choose fabric as she is just getting into the whole kitchen craze. We purchased these adorable cones that are perfect for her hands. She has no problem holding them and can flip flavors in a blink of an eye. I like the fact that she can make 4 flavor choices but only have half the items. I have a feeling her fridge and freezer will soon be filled with many goodies, especially from the HABA line. Along with these, we purchased the fried egg(which is absolutely AMAZING contrary to the reviews), the grilled chicken, and the 6 piece cake set. All of these are fabric, well sized, and beautifully made. I cannot express to you how well made and looking they are.. I am extremely picky and review almost all of my potential purchases before I buy anything. Every one of the products are 5 star quality by me. you will not be disappointed in any of these products, believe me.
