Best African Doll Available Aug 21, 2010
By Lindy W I looked all over online before purchasing this doll. I passed it over at first because I thought the skin tone was too light, and instead bought the AFrican nighty night doll (which I don't recommend, it's weird-looking and the hair is just straight black yarn, not african hair at all). Anyway, this doll came today and it's just beautiful, the dress comes on and off very easily, so my 3 year old can do it on her own, and underneath the dress she's wearing a yellow t-shirt and striped leggings, which are cool and a little more stylish than the dress. Her hair is made of chenille and seems a little more like dreadlocks (and I don't know many young (doll-playing aged) AA girls who wear those), but it's overall a wonderful doll, and I am, finally, super pleased.
Regarding the skin tone, it IS light, but it's darker than it appeared in the amazon photos.
Regarding durability, I would recommend just spot washing this doll by hand.

Delightful Doll !!! Dec 08, 2009

This is a very well made, very attractive doll. We've had this doll almost a year now. She's held up to daily use by a two year old (tugging, dragging, pulling, throwing, tromping over, etc...) and she's still in great condition! Her clothes are still in great shape as they weren't worn much post Christmas Day so we can't comment on the durability, but the colors and fabric are bright and intact. We do plan to get her doll some extra outfits from this company & based on the appeal & durability of Souri, Yannik will be arriving this Christmas as a little a brother for her! Haba Yannik Soft Doll - 12" tall

A black doll thats not scary to look at? woo hoo! lol, Jokes aside, you cannot imagine the hours i've spent looking upon rows and rows of blue eyed, blond and brunette) caucasian dolls. Which by the way i played with just fine as a child. (there warent any other kind) still... i would... even in play... like to let my daughter know that there are representations of her out there too and after looking for a while, i almost gave up. Then came souri.... lovely, well made fabric doll that is black enough to be black but doesnt fit any negative stereotypes and is not UGLY! ( yes, lots of black dolls out there scare even me)My daughter loves the doll because its soft and has cool clothes, i love it because it ends a long search... that was probably more for me than my toddler....to find a cute representation of us in a toy she uses daily.
Now that we have two ( baby alive has an adorable african american doll too..) i can relax and think less when i buy her a barbie or American girl next time ... cause race aside, it sure was hard to pass my beloved Barbie over....lol
Nice doll, great gift for kiddos Jan 05, 2012
By L. Wickline We got this doll for a little girl who was on our 'giving tree'. She arrived looking adorable. She is as she appears in the picture online, and is soft to the touch. I think she'll be a wonderful toy and perhaps confidante :)
