So fun and engaging! Nov 09, 2006
By Simona Masini I bought this for my fifth grade class. I put it in the poetry center hoping it would motivate my students to experiment with words and poetry. It has been a big hit! The students are constantly calling me over to read the poem they wrote with the magnets. I'd really like another set!

Great for the Classroom Jul 09, 2008
By L. Swain I used this poetry kit briefly in my third grade classroom and plan on keeping it around all year in my poetry center. The synonyms are great for expanding kids' vocabulary and they love flipping the words periodically. This kit also gave rise to discussion about connotations and how synonyms might mean the same thing but have a different effect. Great impetus for word work and creative poetry explorations!
Great for Kids Dec 07, 2011
By E. Kennedy I love these magnetic poetry sets. They're a great addition to any fridge door or other magnetic surface. This In Other Words version is great for little kids. Kids can flip over the words to see a synonym on the other side of the magnet. It's a great way to expand a kid's vocabulary!
Great fun while learning! Jul 11, 2011
By M. Walsh Bought this for my daughters at Christmastime. They just LOVE it and so do my husband and I! We will stop by the fridge and make up a silly sentence. Inevitably, one of the kids will come by later on and flip over the words so that, while the sentence is essentially the same, it now sounds entirely different...and most of the time, very funny. The double sided synonyms are MUCH more fun than the single words you find in most magnetic sets. The set also includes "connectors" like AND, OR, THE, SHE, HE, etc. so you really can make full sentences. The only down side is that the set did not come with a container to keep the magnets in. We did not have room to store all the magnets on the fridge (there are a lot of them!) so we keep them in a mug on a counter nearby.
more please Jun 22, 2011
By Kevin M. Kelley great idea to help kids with vocab & synonyms... a basic word (cow) on one side and a more advanced word on the other (bovine). keep 'em coming!
