Gorgeous, expensive, not very challenging or all that much fun Apr 21, 2008

I was very disappointed in this game, especially for the money. It is absolutely gorgeous, but not very challenging for even a 3-year-old. There are only 5 pairs per board. It took my 3-year-old a total of maybe 10 minutes to beat me at all 4 of the included boards, and another 10 to go back through them. Worse, this game is very limited because the pictures are all fixed--in other words, they are in the same position every time. I expect she'll learn them all pretty quickly with a few more repetitions. It does include 5 blank templates for us to make our own--but they'll still only have 5 pairs per board.
If I had it to do over, I'd buy the Guidecraft G5080 Memos instead, because it has twice as many pairs and is more versatile since the disks can be rearranged so every game is different. It's not nearly as visually appealing, but it costs half as much as this one and has much more than twice the play value.
Or maybe I'd just make my own sets by printing pairs of pictures and cutting them apart. That's almost free, and it's really no more work than using the make-your-own templates included with this game.
