A Hit!! Dec 26, 2006

I'm impressed with this toy. It's all-wood construction. Very smooth, well-sanded, no sharp edges. Hit the rubber spot with the mallet, and the ball rises up and out of the tower, rolls around the tower on the colored "walls", and rolls back into the base of the tower, ready to be hit again. The very young will enjoy the repetition (no batteries required!). The slightly older (in our house, at least) enjoy testing various "tricks", such as what happens if I hit it harder? lighter? at the edge of the lever arm instead of on the red dot? etc. We found it to be enjoyable for all ages. I appreciate the solid construction. It's very sturdy, bottom-heavy (nice) and quite lovely wood grains, too.

Got this when my daughter was about 16 months.....it didn't capture her attention for long periods of time...i mean there is only so much times you can hit it for enjoyment. but it is good for building eye and hand coordination which was the primary focus when I decided to purchase this product.

Love it Jul 10, 2009
By K. Lawrence This small, simple toy is surprisingly fun to play with. Not only is it really pretty to look it and superb quality, but it's educational and fun.

great toy for a little pounder Feb 15, 2011
By mrshendough what a fun toy for a kid who is always wanting to pound on something but rarely allowed to! my 2-yr-old son (and his 4-yr-old bro) loves this toy. love it's wooden construction and overall feel. their customer service is excellent, as well. the yellow piece broke off (see the picture) and after i contacted the company, they courteously and promptly mailed me a whole new toy. the new one is great, and very durable. i expect this toy to be around for a while!

Great for developing coordination Aug 04, 2010

Sampled this in a store, and was impressed. But unsure about buying it, because it costs over [...]in the country I live in.
This is more challenging than most hammer toys, because you need to get just the right touch (or maybe I should say whack) to send the ball onto the path. You need to hit the red spot just right. Kids (and adults) will need to experiment with different whacks until they find one that works all the time. It's not just the speed and strength that you hit it with, but also the speed you pull away with. (I think of it as a reflex action.) I think this would be a great toy for kids learning piano, or anything else where the finding the right touch is important.
Moreover, kids can't play this without the hammer, like they can with most hammer toys where they just push the pegs/balls through with their fingers. They need to use the hammer, and they need to use it correctly.
However, this will be a turn-off to fans of open-ended toys, because there's not much you can do with it other than hit the red dot to make the ball go up (or try to catch the ball when somebody else whacks it). The price seems a little high for a toy with only one use (especially if you have to pay over [...]).
