Simple and wonderful! May 07, 2009
By Heather Overkamp I am a believer in simple toys for kids. The more the toy does the less the child does. This puzzle is the perfect size for my 12 month old. Not too many pieces to overwhelm him. He can easyly grab the knobs to manipulate the pieces and the toy has stood up to his abuse. Great price as well!! A very smart purchase for and 1 year old!!

durable, simple shape puzzle Jul 28, 2011
By Megan Schumaker I use this puzzle for my work as a developmental therapist to help teach my toddler patients to match shapes to their cut outs and improve their visual motor skills and motor planning. I love that this puzzle is less visually distracting than other shape puzzles so the child is able to focus on matching the shapes and not the background picture that is present on many other puzzles. My only complaint is that the circle piece actually fits into the square opening which can be confusing for toddlers that are trying to put the pieces in using trial and error.
Also, I often use this puzzle with 10 or more kids each week and it's survived being thrown, mouthed, kicked, dropped and washed repeatedly. Very durable!

appears boring but is nothing but. Oct 18, 2010

this puzzle imo is a great introduction into puzzles for toddlers. our son (currently 21 mos) has figured out that all pieces have their place with this puzzle. it's also a great education toy to learn about primary colors and shapes. made out of 100% wood with durable chip proof paint has held well with extensive abuse. they clean well too. large pieces with large knobs makes it easy for little hands to handle. i want to buy more KID O puzzles.

Choking Hazard Mar 13, 2012
By Borealis This puzzle is a choking hazard! The box says that it is appropriate for ages 1+, but it is dangerous for any child still mouthing objects (and even older ones). My 1 year old was carrying around the blue circle and I suddenly discovered that the knob (with the metal screw still intact) had popped out of the blue circular puzzle piece. We only had this puzzle for one month and it has been gently used (my daughter liked to carry around the pieces and occasionally chew on the puzzle). This seems like a design flaw with the puzzle since the metal screw is smaller than the hole, so there is really nothing preventing the knob from popping out of the hole. In doing additional searches, I just saw that other Kid O puzzle products have been recalled. This is a dangerous product for toddlers!!!

good learning tool, could be improved Mar 03, 2012
By ck I think this toy is a fine learning tool for shapes. I like the simplicity and my child seems to enjoy it. I do think it could be improved in these ways:
- I wish the square whole was just slightly smaller. As designed, the circle piece fits inside the square hole, which can be confusing for kids.
- The durability doesn't compare to some of our other wood toys (such as Haba). The paint has chipped on the edges of the pieces in short time.
- I wish it was thicker like Melissa and Doug's Chunky puzzles.
I wouldn't give this puzzle as a gift because of the chipping paint. However, if I could do over, I would probably still buy this puzzle again because I haven't seen a better alternative, especially given the non-toxic paint and non-glue construction.
