Beautiful, Fantastic, Quality, USA-Made Blocks Dec 14, 2009

We bought these blocks and Uncle Goose Blocks - Classic ABC Blocks with Wagon together for our daughter who will be turning two in a couple of months. I'm very pleased with both sets - they are exactly as I expected them to be.
The blocks are made of Michigan basswood, and although I'm not familiar with different types of wood, I will say that these blocks seem much harder and denser than our previous set - which is covered with dents and dings and chipped-off pieces. Although we've only just received them, I believe they will be more durable than most blocks on the market today.
The size is perfect, and exactly what you would expect of traditional letter blocks, and the design is exquisite. I had difficulty choosing between the more classic design on the uppercase set and the more modern deco-style design on these, and even having purchased them, I still can't choose a favorite. They're both really beautiful.
These are, aside from the embossed design and lowercase letters, nearly identical to the uppercase set. Two sides are embossed in orange, yellow, blue (this set is more of an aqua blue while the uppercase has a more traditional blue) and green with the lowercase alphabet. Two more sides have lowercase letters stamped in bright red, the other two sides are dedicated to baby animals and numbers and are stamped on in a deep blue. Something really cool about owning both the uppercase and lowercase sets is that the uppercase has adult animals, and the lowercase has a matching baby animal for each of the adult animals in the uppercase set, which adds the dimension of creating a game of match the mommy (or daddy) animal with the baby. What a cool, and well-thought-out feature!
I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again. I think the combination of lowercase and uppercase letters make for a truly fantastic set and lots and lots of word-making possibilities. We'll keep them forever, and pass them on to the next generation. I'm so happy to find such a high quality, safe toy made in this country.

These blocks are just right. I'm an elementary school librarian and I chose these blocks for my granddaughter who is nearly 2. They're well made wooden blocks that are the perfect size for stacking. The lower case letters are better for making words and reading. And the pictures are not cartoon-like drawings. These blocks will stand the test of time. They are just right.

I bought this set of blocks to use as a photography prop and not only to I LOVE them but this is the most requested prop that I have! Parents love the classic look of these blocks and they make the perfect accent to any child's portrait. They are bright enough to see in the photo but not so bright that they are more noticeable than the child. I highly recommend these if you are a photographer looking for a set of alphabet blocks!

These are the classic LOWER CASE alphabet blocks (with baby animals) that all kids should have. The 1.75 inch size is perfect for little hands, yet large enough for adults to play along with - and you WILL want to play along with these. They are made in the U.S. of highest quality, non-toxic natural materials. They are sturdy enough to pass down to your kid's kids. Uncle Goose quality is so consistent they even sell replacement blocks if any are ever lost. And don't forget to buy the Upper Case alphabet blocks (with adult animals)from the same manufacturer. Both sets are so pretty, they can be used in holiday decorations / displays.
