Great for newborns Nov 23, 2007
By Amanda J I bought these on the recommendation of a friend whose son is now 9 months for my then 2 mo old (now 3 1/2 months). I was a little put off by the price because for some reason, I thought they were playing card sized, when they arrived they are about the size of a paperback or DVD package, and very sturdy and thick. My son loves to look at these and will follow them with his eyes and by turning his head. I had borrowed some black and white books by Tana Hoban for infants from the library which have solid shapes in black and white and my son couldn't care less about those images.
As far as the garden collection, I am sure that it doesn't matter to the baby which set you choose, but you will get use out of these and they seem to be substantial enough to be passed on to another child.

Great for a newborn! May 11, 2010
By Mom to be Got these cards before my son - now 3 months - was born. Well worth the price if you have an extra 12 bucks to spend! He won't be interested in these simple b/w images for much longer, so their usefulness is very short lived. But these were the first images he was interested in and the first thing that he could track 180 degrees (moved his head all the way from right to left side, following the cards). I sing "old mcDonald" with him and the 6 cards. Not many cards, but just right for teh attention span of an infant. His eyes get big and he focuses on each card with intensity. I think it's not only the simple B/w images that keep his attention, but the cards are just big enough to block his view of other competing objects that he likes to look at (such as Mommy, or the ceiling light).
I also used these cards for his first wall pictures in his room. I scanned a few cards, then blew them up and printed them and put them in some small white PB frames I had. He loves to look at them from his crib and changing table. Again - short lived. I'll probably replace the prints with something more colorful in a few months time. But it's cheap to print and it was worth the effort to have my 1 month old stare contentedly at art while I changed him.

Perfect flash cards for infant. Aug 30, 2007

Our son loved these flash cards even at the age of one or two months. The card stock is sturdy and the cards still look new after frequent use. Black and white is perfect for very young infants.
Only possible con: the writing on the flash cards is cursive. Our son isn't old enough to start reading but when he is, I'm not sure the writing will be legible to him.
Overall, a great buy.

My baby loves them! Mar 26, 2010
By M. Westcott These cards are perfect for keeping the attention of your newborn. I have a little 8 week old and I've been using these cards in his crib since he was 5 weeks old. He loves to just stare at them and observe them when he's having his tummy time or if he's just laying on his back. The contrast of the colors are perfect. I love that they are reverse colors on the other side. If he gets tired of looking at one side you just flip the card over and there's the same image but in different shades. It's great! And the cards are very durable - they are not easily bendable and if they happen to get dirty they wipe off quite easily. I've gotten two other sets for him.

Beautiful, but wish they were laminated Mar 24, 2010
By N M R I got these before my daughter was born and used them with her from the beginning. There is no doubt that the first few months they really captured her attention. And I think the designs are just beautiful. I do wish that I could have found a mobile hanger that would allow the cards to hang horizontally so that she could look up at them, instead I've only found ones that hang vertically, making it almost impossible for her to see the designs.
Now that she is 6 months, all she wants to do is put things in her mouth and it would be nice if these were laminate so I could give them to her to play with. I've framed them and they look nice, and will take them out to see if she is interested in them when she is a little older.
